Salivary gland FNA is a key diagnostic tool that reduces unnecessary surgery, yet its interpretation can be difficult due to tumor diversity and low specimen cellularity. The Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology (MSRSGC) has improved diagnostic clarity through standardized categorization.
Cell blocks (CBs) enhance FNA evaluation by preserving tissue architecture and enabling immunohistochemistry and molecular testing—tools increasingly vital in the era of targeted therapy. Despite challenges with cellularity, CBs are feasible and valuable in routine practice.
